What type of Fellowship Opportunities will be available in Kansas City?
After their third year, Kansas City students will have the opportunity to apply for the OMM fellowship. Students can also apply for the Anatomy fellowship program following their second year or their third year. .
Will there be a chance for students to be involved in Research opportunities?
Yes, there will be research opportunities in the Kansas City community for KCU students. KCU partners with several area institutions. More information can be found by visiting our Research page.
What type of Specialty Tracks will be offered?
The Kansas City campus offers the Military Track for HPSP students. The Kansas City campus also offers a Global Health Track for students interested in practicing internationally. Students who are not in the Global Health Track can still apply for the international medical mission trips organized by the Kansas City campus.
Will I be able to pursue a dual degree program (MBA or Bioethics)?
The Kansas City campus offers two dual degree programs that begin the second semester of Year 1. The Bioethics program is taught on the KCU campus while the MBA in Healthcare Leadership is taught at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
What are the current clerkship locations for third- and fourth-year students?
While most Kansas City students will complete there clinical rotations in Kansas City area, clerkship sites for the Kansas City campus are located across the country in various states. What type of housing is available in the Kansas City area?
Kansas City is a large metropolitan area and has many types of housing to suit a student’s individual needs. KCU provides the contact information of a trusted housing specialist who helps students who are relocating to Kansas City. For more information click here.
What clubs and organizations are available in Kansas City?
KCU offers many different clubs and organizations so that students have the opportunity to network, attend national conventions, promote the medical profession and participate in special clinical experiences. Click to learn more about Clubs and Organizations.
What scholarships are Kansas City candidates eligible for?
Both Joplin and Kansas City campus students are eligible for the same scholarships. See a full list of scholarships here.
Can I be considered for admission to both campus locations?
On the primary application to KCU through AACOMAS, applicants will have the opportunity to select a campus preference of Kansas City, Joplin, or both. Applicants will only receive one decision. If you have selected both, the decision of campus location, if offered admission, will be determined by the university in the best interest of the applicant and the university.
Will students participating in the Partner Affiliations with KCU be able to choose between Joplin and Kansas City?
Yes. Partner Program students can select which campus they prefer. The final decision will be made in the best interest of the student and the University.
When can I visit the Kansas City campus?
The campus is open to prospective students to come and visit. To attend one of our visit days, please register your party here.
Will some lectures be presented remotely from Joplin?
Some presentations including special guest speakers will be shown via live stream between the Joplin and Kansas City campuses.
Will lectures be recorded and posted to Mediasite?
Yes. Lectures will be recorded by IT and released to students after class.
Will students be required to travel between the Kansas City and Joplin locations for lectures?
No. Students will not need to travel between the two campus locations.
Is there be a Big Sibling program or other mentorship opportunities?
KCU pairs first-year students with second-year students who are willing to mentor them during the first year. This is to help foster community and engagement between the classes and assist new students with the transition to medical school.
Will KC students be able to watch Joplin lectures and vice versa?
For the most part, recorded lectures and Blackboard content will be separate for each campus. Some special lectures or guest speakers will be simulcast and would be available for viewing by both campuses.
What is there to do in Kansas City?
Along every street and around every corner, there’s something to do that’s unique to Kansas City. With a thriving creative arts scene, eclectic mix of entertainment and three professional sports teams, it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone. Kansas City boasts some of the finest dining and several vibrant shopping districts to entertain you, when you need a break from studying.
Does Kansas City offer public transit options?
Kansas City offers a number of public transportation options including private transportation resources as well. More information can be found here.
What is the cost of living like in Kansas City?
The cost of living allowance (COLA) is the same between Joplin and Kansas City for financial aid purposes.
Kansas City International Airport (MCI) offers over 400 daily nonstop flights around the country including a number of international flights as well. The airport is arranged in a three terminal layout with commercial flights operating out of the B and C terminal. Even though it is a busy airport, it is simple to navigate and quick to get in and out due to it's use of multiple TSA checkpoints that keep lines moving smoothly and efficiently.
