Is KCU planning for an in-person commencement on campus this year?

(As of December 18, 2020) - The situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic may continue to be fluid and we will remain cautious to protect our campus communities and those we serve. The delivery of the 2021 ceremonies is subject to change. Should it be necessary to shift to a virtual ceremony, that decision will be communicated to you by March 15, 2021. We thank you for your understanding and patience.

Are commencement activities required?

All graduates are required to attend the Commencement Ceremony, and all activities as noted on the schedules: Kansas City | Joplin. If you are not able to attend any activity, you will need to request permission from your school dean.

Will I receive tickets to commencement? If so, how many?

Unless physical distancing is required, Municipal Auditorium is open seating and does not require tickets. Seats may not be reserved with the exception of special needs seating which must be requested through the Commencement Form.

Do I pay for my regalia?

KCU will pay for graduates’ regalia. Graduates are responsible for the expense of guest hooder regalia.

What are the requirements for a guest hooder?

Where do I park for rehearsal and the ceremony?

One complimentary parking voucher will be available in the parking garage below the Barney Allis Plaza for all graduates. Enter the garage from Wyandotte or Central Streets between 12th and 13th streets. Well-lit tunnels with directional signage connect the garage to the Convention Facilities. Is my family invited to the campus picnic?

The Class of 2021 and their families are encouraged to attend. Faculty and staff will also be in attendance.

Are pets allowed at the campus picnic?

No pets (other than service animals) are allowed at the picnic or on campus.
