Kansas City University (KCU) Master of Biomedical Sciences graduates now have a new pathway into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) through a new partnership.

The agreement establishes a pipeline program that guarantees a minimum of five seats each year in the UMKC PharmD program for qualified KCU biomedical sciences graduates. Students set to graduate in May 2026 will be the first eligible to enter the UMKC School of Pharmacy through this pathway.

Modeled after KCU partnerships with Regis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the initiative expands post-graduate opportunities beyond medical and dental school.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to creating pathways that allow students to thrive and communities to benefit,” said Robert White, PhD, dean of the College of Biosciences at KCU. “By joining forces with UMKC, we can provide even more opportunities for students to grow as leaders in health and science.”

As part of the collaboration, UMKC representatives will visit KCU annually to provide information and answer questions about the PharmD program.

“We are proud to partner with KCU to build on our shared strengths in education, research and service,” said Russell Melchert, PhD, dean of the School of Pharmacy at UMKC. “Together, we will empower students and help address the region’s most pressing health care and workforce needs.”

The PharmD program at UMKC is an accredited, full-time, four-year program. Graduates of the program take licensing exams after commencement. After passing the exams, graduates can then practice as a generalist pharmacist in a wide array of health-care settings or complete postgraduate residency, fellowship or PhD training. Students may attend the program at one of three campus sites: Kansas City, Columbia or Springfield.

Both universities emphasize that the collaboration will evolve over time, with new projects and opportunities emerging as the partnership grows.
