In 1994, Ghassan Fahel, DO, a proud graduate of Kansas City University (KCU) College of Osteopathic Medicine, embarked on a remarkable journey in medicine that has led him to a thriving career and an enduring legacy of giving back. As a board-certified family physician and owner of MboD Medical Spa in Miami, Florida, Fahel has continuously pushed boundaries, blending innovation, patient-centered care and a passion for wellness. His story is one of inspiration, creativity and a deep sense of gratitude.
Fahel’s introduction to KCU began with the guidance of his cousin, who encouraged him to consider osteopathic medicine. Initially on a sports medicine track with aspirations of working in physical therapy, he found his calling in medicine through his love of sports and fitness. His cousin’s influence and the welcoming environment at KCU were pivotal.
“KCU felt like home,” Fahel recalls. “The classrooms were intimate; the professors were accessible and the camaraderie among students was unparalleled. It was a place where I felt seen and supported.”
While the osteopathic profession was less widely known at the time, Fahel embraced its holistic approach to care. “We were underdogs back then, but the quality of graduates at KCU has proven we’re a vital resource in the medical community.”
Fahel’s career path has been anything but conventional. During his residency in Florida, he began moonlighting with his cousin, providing house call services to tourists and residents. This unique model — bringing medical care directly to patients in their homes or hotels — grew into a successful business spanning multiple cities.
In 2004, he launched his own practice with a vision to redefine patient care. Inspired by his wife’s artistic sensibilities, he created a medical clinic designed to feel like a spa — a welcoming, stress-free environment where patients could receive comprehensive care without the sterile atmosphere of traditional practices.
“It was concierge medicine before it was a trend,” Fahel explains. “We focused on delivering exceptional care without the barriers of long waits or impersonal interactions.”
Fahel and his wife, Tania Camacho, have made a planned gift to KCU — but their commitment doesn’t stop there. Because they believe deeply in the University’s mission — improving the well-being of the communities we serve – they are also dedicating their time and expertise. The couple is working with University leadership to implement a plan that will engage fellow alumni in growing the endowment to $100 million, deliver lectures on entrepreneurship and create new avenues to partner with graduates pioneering innovative technologies in medicine.
“We are so grateful for the efforts of Dr. Fahel and his wife, Tania, to help our students. In addition to a major planned gift in their estate, they will be providing volunteer leadership to grow our endowment, establish an entrepreneurship lecture series and support innovation in technology,” notes Jennifer Ingraham, vice president of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement.
Her words echo Fahel’s gratitude for the support he received as a student.
“When I interviewed at KCU, someone believed in me,” he says. “This is my way of saying thank you and ensuring future students have the same opportunities I did.”
Fahel hopes his story will inspire others to give back, whether through mentorship, teaching or philanthropy. He envisions returning to KCU one day to share his entrepreneurial insights with students, particularly the importance of integrating business acumen into medical education.
“Medicine and business are intertwined,” he says. “If I can help students navigate that intersection, it would be an honor.”
For Fahel, the journey is far from over. In March 2025, he transitioned his practice to a fully virtual model and remains committed to innovation and expanding his impact. His legacy, rooted in compassion, creativity and a dedication to excellence, will continue to inspire KCU students and the broader medical community.
“I want to leave the world better than I found it,” he reflects. “And I’m just getting started.”
His story is a testament to the power of education, resilience and the enduring spirit of giving back. Through his generosity and vision, he ensures that the next generation of KCU graduates will be equipped to lead, heal and inspire.
