Fifteen years after the devastating Joplin tornado, Dr. Kenneth Stewart still remembers the chaos, resilience and lifesaving efforts that followed one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. Then serving as ER medical director at St. John’s Hospital, Stewart helped coordinate emergency care in the aftermath of the storm. Today, as an assistant professor at KCU-Joplin, he shares those experiences with students, using lessons from that day to teach preparedness, leadership and the importance of delivering care when communities need it most.
