Immersive technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) are transforming medical education by offering students hands-on experience in a safe, virtual environment. Clinical psychology professor Jennifer Fugate, PhD, and fourth-year medical student Michaela Tonsager conducted a systematic review of 56 studies to assess the effectiveness of these tools in training medical and nursing students. Their findings support the value of Immersive Extended Reality (I-XR) in improving clinical skills, though they also highlight the need for stronger theoretical frameworks.
