NJ Clinical Consortium - Louisiana Branch

2600 Greenwood Rd
Shreveport, LA 71103
Core Site assignments are for year three only. Clerkship placement during year four is based solely on the site’s availability and approval. Students must follow the scheduling protocols outlined by the location and the Clinical Education Guidelines.

In this rural site centered around Shreveport LA, students often work one-on-one with an attending physician rather than a hierarchy of residents and other students. Thus, for example: OBGYN will be more women health and preventative and perinatal care focused as opposed to L&D heavy. Surgeries will be mostly bread and butter as opposed to massive AAA or cardiothoracic in nature. Preceptors are experienced and love to teach.

In internal Medicine students will work closely with the IM residents at a major ACGME teaching hospital in Shreveport LA.

Students are expected to understand the social determinants of health specific to Louisiana (e.g., agricultural injuries, limited transport, and specific dietary health risks).

If applicable, selective opportunities will be communicated to students at the core site’s discretion after the match.

  • Selective clerkship opportunities are not available away from the Core Site during the third year. Exceptions to this policy may occur for students officially enrolled in the Military and Global Health Tracks.
