Lilliam M. Pinzon, DDS, MS, MPH

Associate Professor of Dental Medicine

Dr. Pinzon has a multidisciplinary background in dentistry, public health and dental biomaterials. She holds a DDS from University of Antioquia, a Master of Science from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, a specialization in dental biomaterials and a Master of Public Health from University of California, Berkeley. In 2024, she served as a visiting scientist at the National Institutes of Health, collaborating with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).

Her research has been funded by NIDCR, NIH Fogarty, HRSA and the CDC, and spans public health, global health and dental biomaterials. She was the first to report on the oral health status of underserved populations in Utah and has developed foundational education and equity initiatives to improve access to care. She leads global health initiatives and clinical studies aimed at strengthening dental care for underserved communities, working in collaboration with institutions across Latin America.

In addition to her public and global health work, Dr. Pinzon has extensive expertise in dental biomaterials research and education. She has contributed to the development and evaluation of innovative materials and minimally invasive techniques, advancing both clinical practice and dental education. She also co-founded and served as president of the American Association for Dental Research Utah Section.
