Virtual Interview Schedule

Virtual interview activities will occur in Central Standard Time.

Start times vary according to your chosen interview session (morning/afternoon).

Interview Day Welcome

To start your interview day, you will be asked to connect to a Zoom virtual waiting room approximately 15 minutes prior to the start time of our Welcome session. When you are connected a minute or so before our start time, you will join a room with other candidates before being introduced to Admissions Staff and our Campus Deans. Admissions will present a brief overview of our agenda, and the Deans will speak briefly to “welcome” you to KCU.

As we are conducting interviews virtually, we will be splitting you and the other candidates between different Zoom rooms at certain points in the day, depending on the session you are attending (morning or afternoon). Morning interview candidates will transition right away to their interview and group activity invite link following the Welcome session, while afternoon interview candidates will disconnect briefly from Zoom and will reconnect to a separate invite link for their student ambassador panel and then for their interview and group activity.

Virtual Interview Schedule

For the interview format, you will participate in one 20-minute interview with two KCU faculty or staff members. Admissions will be coordinating everything in the background. Interview questions are designed to assess different qualities about you as an applicant. Your interview will focus on KCU values, critical thinking skills, and responses to ethical scenarios.

When you are connected, you will briefly be placed in a large room with other candidates and interviewers before being split into your first one-on-one interview room with a KCU Faculty or Staff interviewer. Plan to quickly introduce yourself, and allow your interviewer to do the same. Your interviewer will need to use most of the 20 minutes to ask you pre-determined questions designed to assess different qualities about you as an applicant. Please be conscious of time as you speak with your interviewer, and allow them time to transition between their questions.

At two minutes before the end of your interview, you will receive a notification that the interview time is close to wrapping up.  At the end of 20 minutes, you will be brought back into the large virtual room with the other candidates until your group activity.

Group Activity

Following your interview, Admissions will place you into a group with a few other candidates for the group activity discussion. A group moderator will provide you with one or two discussion points. You will participate and contribute to the group discussion for approximately 20 minutes. The moderators will be there to observe the group interactions.

Student Panel

You will connect to a separate virtual room to be introduced to Student Ambassadors from both of our campus locations. We will then combine Student Ambassadors and candidates into a separate breakout room, while Admissions and Student Services staff “step out” to allow open discussion between you, other candidates, and the ambassadors.

We don’t have a section of time set aside for a lunch break (or brunch, depending on what time zone you’re in), but please feel free to briefly step away during this time to grab a snack or something to eat while you listen in on the panel discussion.  We want you to have energy for the rest of your day, and understand if you need to turn off your camera for a few moments.

Once you have completed all previously mentioned Interview Day activities, you will meet with Admissions staff and other candidates in a virtual meeting room for our closeout session. We will cover important details about your remaining paperwork, immunizations, deadlines, and other need-to-know information before concluding the day. You will also receive a follow-up email with some final reminders and a survey for you to give us your feedback.

While this is a condensed version of our interview day, our goal is still to have as many of your questions answered as possible by the end of the day, and ultimately to give you as much information about KCU to help aid in your medical school choice.  If, however, you think of additional questions after your interview day, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Office of Admissions email address at admissions@kansascity.edu. We will get back to you as quickly as possible with the information you need to keep moving forward in your admissions process.
