DO/Master of Public Health

In partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, KCU offers osteopathic medical students the opportunity to earn a dual degree, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Public Health (DO/MPH). This offering addresses the need for future health-care practitioners to possess knowledge in population and public health. A dual degree opportunity for dental students is under development and will be available in the future.

Students in the MPH program will gain advanced skills, preparing them to better respond to future pandemics and other infectious diseases. As new obstacles in public health continue to adversely impact our communities and health-care systems, KCU is dedicated to preparing our students in every way possible to carry out our mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve. DO/Master of Arts in Bioethics

Advances in stem cell research and genetic engineering, the globalization of medical practice and health care policy, and the relationships between environmental quality and human health have raised critical ethical issues in medicine. As a doctor also trained in bioethics, you’ll provide leadership in addressing these vital ethical challenges.

The KCU dual degree program provides a broad orientation to the interdisciplinary field of bioethics, including an in-depth examination of philosophical and religious ethics. You can complete both the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Arts in Bioethics at the end of four years.

Requirements

  • Be in good academic standing within the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Submit an application and brief essay regarding why you want to enroll in the Bioethics Dual Degree Program.
  • First year COM students will submit their applications via Workday by December 2, 2024.

DO/MBA or DMD/MBA in Health Care Leadership

At both of our KCU campuses we offer an innovative program through which selected medical students can earn a dual degree of DO/MBA – a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from KCU and a Master of Business Administration in health care leadership.

In partnership with Rockhurst University Helzberg School of Management, KCU-Kansas City medical students may pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Leadership. This program and course schedule have been tailored to allow medical students to complete the program in the same four-year time frame as the DO program. Doctor of Dental Medicine and MBA dual degree program will start in year two of the CDM Program and can be completed after the student receives their DMD, if needed.

An application process is made available at the end of the first semester of medical school. Applicants for the DO/MBA or DMD/MBA dual-degree program must be approved for the program by the campus dean of COM in order to pursue this area of study. Students must remain in good academic standing and pass all courses within COM/CDM, or they may be required to withdraw from the MBA portion of the program. For additional details regarding the DO/MBA program, please contact the Rockhurst University Graduate College or refer to the Rockhurst website.
