Following a year of impactful leadership and strategic counsel, Matt Haase has been promoted to chief of staff in the Office of the President at Kansas City University (KCU).

Since joining KCU in April 2024 as senior director of strategic relations, Haase has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing the University’s mission.

“Matt will continue serving as a trusted advisor, advancing University priorities, supporting the Board of Trustees and strengthening connections with our civic, governmental and community partners,” said Marc, B. Hahn, DO, president and CEO of KCU.

Before joining KCU, Haase served as senior director for external relations at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), where he cultivated relationships with elected officials and government agencies. His work secured critical state and federal funding for the expansion of the UMKC School of Medicine, the development of new dental clinics on Hospital Hill in Kansas City and the establishment of a new medical school campus in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Haase previously spent 18 years as a congressional staff member for U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, serving in both Washington, D.C., and Missouri. His roles included positions in the Office of the Majority Whip and as a senior legislative assistant. Among his accomplishments was helping lead efforts to secure $188.2 million in federal funding for the expansion of the Kansas City Streetcar line from the Berkley Riverfront to the UMKC campus.

Haase’s promotion reflects KCU’s continued investment in experienced leadership and its strategic focus on collaboration, advocacy and community engagement.
