The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU) is proud to announce 100 percent of its class of 2016 students matched with a residency program of their choice by 9:30 p.m. on March 18, also known as Match Day. KCU’s 245 graduating students will matriculate to residency programs ranging from family and internal medicine to anesthesiology and neurology, among others. Specifically, 49 percent of students matched in primary care residency programs.
“KCU is immensely proud of the hard work and dedication this impressive group of students put forth to achieve a 100 percent match,” said Bruce Dubin, DO, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, KCU. “From day one at KCU, our faculty and staff provide counseling on the variety of residency programs available, and continue to educate and advise students each day forward. We look forward to the many accomplishments these future physicians will achieve as they continue to pursue their medical aspirations.”
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the national match average is 94 percent, demonstrating KCU’s unwavering commitment to making the education and preparation of its students its first priority. To help ensure a result of 100 percent, KCU offers third- and fourth-year specialty tracks to provide high-quality rotations. KCU also provides a dedicated staff director to assist fourth-year students as they work toward a residency match.
“For the fourth year in a row, KCU has achieved a 100 percent match, a feat we are very proud of,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, president and chief executive officer, KCU. “Nearly half of this year’s graduates are committed to primary care residency programs, demonstrating this University’s commitment to challenging the impending primary care physician shortage in the U.S., which is projected to exceed 50,000 by 2025. Our students currently make a measurable difference in the communities we serve and we anticipate numerous achievements ahead.”
