During the 2020-21 school year, KCU’s Score 1 for Health team provided care packets to students in every Score 1 elementary school. KCU staff, faculty and student volunteers assembled the packets and delivered them to nearly twelve thousand children in Kansas City, and to more than three thousand children in the Joplin area. Each packet contained toothpaste, a toothbrush, a high-quality child’s face covering, healthy lifestyle resources, and a coloring page that also doubled as a contest entry.
The coloring contest entitled Things That Make Me Smile Underneath My Mask encouraged elementary-age children to explore their creativity while celebrating their physical and mental well-being. Prior to the end of the school year, winners were announced.
Joplin Winners
Joplin district winners included Maci Campbell from Soaring Heights Elementary, who received recognition as the K-1st grade winner, and Columbia Elementary’s Landry Schwab, who claimed the 2nd-3rd grade prize. The 4th-5th grade winner was from Royal Heights Elementary. This student also won Best of Show!
Kansas City Winners
Kansas City's art contest encompassed several school districts and had 11 winners.
