Usman Ghani, PhD, MSc
Associate Professor of Biochemistry
Dr. Ghani’s research bridges basic science and therapeutic development, with interests in enzymology, drug discovery, and endothelial function and repair in disease. His work has identified several lead candidates for further development and has expanded into studying new tyrosinase inhibitors to target post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation of the skin and melanogenesis.
His previous research focused on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in acute ischemic stroke, transient ischemic stroke and chronic cerebrovascular disease. This work was the first to demonstrate a strong correlation between circulating EPC levels and cerebrovascular conditions, advancing understanding of vascular biology and potential therapeutic targets.
