At Kansas City University (KCU), simulation extends beyond medicine, giving every student hands-on fluency in their field by augmenting traditional classroom instruction with experiential education. KCU College of Biosciences (COB) students in both the biomedical sciences and the clinical psychology programs benefit from simulation activities designed to advance their knowledge, skills and technological competency.

RE-THINKING HEALTH SCIENCE

Our students in the one-year Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program gain invaluable skills through simulation. Using HoloHuman+ and Microsoft HoloLens headsets to experience immersive, three-dimensional anatomical models, students explore more than 2,500 named structures across 12 body systems to better prepare for future advanced study in health-related fields by deepening their understanding of human anatomy. Students also utilize an anatomage table, an anatomical simulator capable of displaying detailed views of human bodily systems on a life-size, interactive screen.

EDUCATING COMPASSIONATE CLINICIANS

The Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program at KCU educates aspiring psychologists to become patient-centered clinicians through a curriculum that gradually progresses from foundational knowledge to advanced clinical practice. Prior to treating real patients during their practicum work, our students participate in simulation activities with simulated patients to develop their foundational therapy and psychological assessment skills.
