Kansas City University (KCU) faculty and international collaborators are among the recipients of the 2026 Distinguished Service Awards from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). This award honors individuals whose leadership and service advance the mission of osteopathic family medicine.
W. Joshua Cox, DO, FACOFP, executive dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and interim provost at KCU, was recognized for leadership that strengthens osteopathic medical education and expands the profession’s reach. Since joining KCU in 2006, he has led key initiatives, including the Honors Track in Military Medicine and supported global outreach efforts in Kenya, the Dominican Republic, China and India. Through national faculty roles and international presentations, he continues to elevate the visibility and standards of osteopathic family medicine.
Ana Karina Zuniga Cox was honored for her outstanding dedication to advancing osteopathic family medicine through cross-cultural communication. A certified interpreter, she has played a critical role in global outreach efforts for more than 15 years, helping build partnerships with hospitals, universities and communities in the Dominican Republic, China, Panama and beyond. She has traveled extensively alongside her spouse, W. Joshua Cox, in support of the global health outreach efforts at KCU. Her work enhances the understanding of osteopathic principles and strengthens connections between physicians and the communities they serve.
Bonyo Bonyo, DO, adjunct faculty at KCU, was recognized for a lifetime of service dedicated to expanding access to care and advancing osteopathic family medicine globally. Founder of Bonyo’s Kenya Mission, he established the Mama Pilista Bonyo Health Centre, a year-round facility providing care in his home village of Wan’gaya. In partnership with KCU, the mission also serves as a hands-on learning site for osteopathic medical students, reflecting his enduring commitment to service and education.
These recipients broaden the reach and relevance of osteopathic family medicine and bring care, connection and impact to communities around the world.
