KCU students receive multiple awards at 2025 Kansas City Medical Conference

Kansas City University (KCU) osteopathic medical students earned top honors across every competition category at the 2025 Kansas City Medical Conference held December 6, 2025.

The annual conference, presented by the University of Missouri–Kansas City, KCU and the University of Kansas, brings together students and professionals to advance medical research through an inclusive, collaborative forum that emphasizes student scholarship and interdisciplinary exchange.

The following KCU students received awards for their research:

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS)

  • 3rd Place: Ali Elsadig
    Return to Sport and Surgical Outcomes in Athletes Undergoing Minimally Invasive Fasciotomy for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome

Translational and Basic Science

  • 1st Place: Kaitlyn Jade Aldaz
    Modified Phospholipid Nanoparticle Fluid Preserves Hemostasis After Resuscitation from Clinical Death in a Rat Hemorrhagic Shock Model
  • 2nd Place: Sarila Ekin
    Targeting Arachidonic Acid Lipoxygenase-12 (ALOX12) in the Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Tumor Microenvironment to Enhance Therapy Outcomes

Clinical Science

  • 2nd Place: Jessica Morehouse and Jordan Konstanty
    Revisiting Thoracic Splanchnic Nerve Anatomy: Implications for Thoracoscopic Splanchnicectomy and Pain Management
  • 3rd Place: Jeffrey Earl
    The Role of the Tibial Growth Plate on Anterior Cruciate Ligament Loading

Joshua Cox, DO, executive dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and interim provost. “They are asking meaningful questions, engaging deeply with the scientific process and contributing work that stands out.”
