Nonprofit Connect, an organization that links the nonprofit community to education, resources and networking, has named Terry and Peggy Dunn its 2016 “Volunteers of the Year” for their far-reaching civic leadership and volunteerism. Mr. Dunn served on the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU) Board of Trustees for two terms and was chairman from 2009 to 2013; he is currently the University’s Centennial Campaign Co-Chair. Mrs. Dunn has served as mayor of Leawood, Kan., since 1997 and continues to work to positively impact the Kansas City community, including serving on the boards of the Leawood Chamber of Commerce, Truman Medical Center’s Charitable Foundation and many more.
KCU and the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) Foundation jointly nominated the Dunns, who will be honored during Nonprofit Connect’s 32nd Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m.
“It is an honor to recognize these individuals who have played such a pivotal role in our community,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, president and chief executive officer of KCU. “Their leadership has had a profound impact on this university, and has greatly influenced not only Kansas City, but also the states of Kansas and Missouri. Both Terry and Peggy embody our mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve, and I can think of no two more deserving of this prestigious award.”
In 2015, UMKC awarded Mr. and Mrs. Dunn — both alumni of the university — its top honor for volunteerism, the Chancellor’s Medal.
“The choice of Terry and Peggy Dunn for this award is so appropriate and well-deserved,” said UMKC Foundation President Steven P. Norris. “The impact they have made on Kansas City over the years has been profound. Both Terry and Peggy are UMKC alumni and have been extensively involved with the university for years, and they have made a significant difference for us and our ability to serve our students and our community.”
