KCU was recently named among Kansas City’s 2023 Healthiest Employers by the Kansas City Business Journal. KCU was recognized for prioritizing employees' well-being through its KCyou Well-Being program. The Business Journal works with Healthiest Employers LLC, a data and research company, to assess companies on their wellness program's culture and leadership commitment, life-work flexibility, mental health and family benefits, physical health resources, financial well-being, and more.
“As a health sciences university, KCU places great value on the health and well-being of all members of our communities and works to instill a philosophy that emphasizes holistic care of the mind, body and spirit alike,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, president and CEO of KCU. “I am pleased that KCU provides our employees with a generous program in support of this tenet, and I am extremely proud of their strong participation in our university’s offerings in continued pursuit of a healthy lifestyle and improved well-being.”
In addition, KCU was recently selected as a recipient of two regional well-being awards.
- Healthy KC Platinum: The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce awarded KCU the Platinum Level Healthy KC Certificate – the highest level awarded. The certificate is awarded to organizations that have made wellness a priority; and
- Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation: Cigna selected KCU as a recipient of their Bronze level Healthy Workforce Designation for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of its employees. The Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation, formerly known as the Cigna Well-Being Award, evaluates organizations based on the core components of their well-being program, including leadership and culture, program foundations, program execution, and whole person health. Organizations recognized with this designation set the standard of excellence for whole-organization health.
The common thread in winning these awards is rooted in KCU’s commitment to employee health through the KCyou Well-Being program, which offers a benefits premium discount for completing preventive exams and biometric screenings, monthly well-being contests and prizes, mental health resources, complimentary dietician consultations and healthy cooking demonstrations, on-campus gym, yoga and guided meditation classes, chair massage, flu vaccine clinics, financial education and retirement planning, on-campus mammogram screenings, annual wellness fairs, wellness challenges, Corporate Challenge participation, and more.
“I am incredibly proud of how our employees engage in our well-being program and offerings, while remaining dedicated to our mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve,” said Jamie Hirshey, director of human resources. “What is unique about the evolution of our KCyou Well-Being program this year is the intentional focus on creating healthy connections and fostering a sense of belonging – both much needed after the last few difficult years society has endured. Throughout the year, we especially focused on these two elements, and how we can all thrive and be better together through specifically designed activities and events that foster connections.”
