Medical and dental students at KCU stepped out of the classroom and into hands-on learning, welcoming hundreds of elementary school students to campus for free health screenings marking the official launch of Score 1 for Health for the 2024-25 academic year.

Score 1 for Health Wellness Day was a huge success as approximately 155 fifth graders from Cecil Floyd, Jefferson and Royal Heights elementary schools arrived on the KCU-Joplin campus.

Kansas City University has thus far received a total of $16 million in federal and foundation support for the development and building of a new Center for Population Health and Equity  on both Kansas City and Joplin campuses.

On a frigid Saturday morning, equipped with a collapsible bucket for water, an array of ointments and bandages and new pairs of shoes and socks, KCU Student-Run Clinic volunteers hosted their second FreshStep clinic within a year for people experiencing homelessness in Kansas City.

Kansas City University (KCU) today announced plans for a new Center for Population Health and Equity (CPHE) that will systematically educate students and engage communities in addressing the factors outside of the health care system that impact health -- the social and structural determinants that are the largest contributors to health inequities.

Kansas City University is pleased to announce the addition of Catherine Lindsey Satterwhite, PhD, MSPH, MPH, who will serve as the executive director of the new Center for Population Health and Equity.

KCU Score 1 for Health and OneSight continued their long-time partnership with a week-long clinic to provide free eye exams and glasses to children from over 100 schools across the metropolitan area. 

KCU-Joplin welcomed nearly 150 local fifth graders during a Score 1 for Health screening event. Medical students performed physical assessments and gained valuable clinical experience while the children had a chance to see science in action.

KCU staff and faculty volunteers assisted Score 1 for Health with screenings that took place at local elementary schools in Kansas City.
