In life, after the bustle of raising children, the day-to-day of patient care and a few decades pass, you look back and feel proud of what you’ve achieved. For Kansas City University alumnus Michael Schrenko, DO (COM '74), this realization didn’t happen all at once, but over time.

For Evany Zirul, DO (COM '79), MFA, her lifelong journey as a creative soul began with a sketchbook and a special pen. The future Dr. Zirul and her sketchbook were renowned for not only exacting, detailed notes, but also social commentary on the relevance of the material and often the teacher presenting it.

As the spirit of Giving Tuesday approaches, Steve Radinsky, DO (COM ’69), stands as a shining example of the dedication, service and generosity that defines the Kansas City University (KCU) community. His story is not only a testament to overcoming obstacles, but also a celebration of a lifetime dedicated to healing, service and giving back to the alma mater that shaped his remarkable career and life.

Four Kansas City University (KCU) alumni were honored during the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) 2023 Honors Gala that took place October 6, 2023, at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) Osteopathic Medical Education Conference. 

Breast surgeon and breast cancer survivor, Deepa Halaharvi, DO (COM '08), speaks on the importance of early detection as October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

Ovarian cancer can cause many symptoms that range from abdominal pain to fatigue. KCU alumna, Kathy Lafavor, DO (COM '06), speaks on the importance of early detection of ovarian cancer. 

Jessica Bass, DO, knew she wanted to become a physician scientist, but she never imagined she would become the first osteopathic physician to secure one of the most prestigious fellowships in the nation.

KCU congratulates Jennifer Ingraham, vice president of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, as the 2023 recipient of the esteemed Bernard Powell Award. The award is given annually to an alumnus or alumna of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions program, and is chosen by past award winners.

KCU alumna, Kristen Anderson, DO (COM '17) speaks on why some children are experiencing gaps in their communication skills. Dr. Anderson suggests that parents read, sing and speak to their children to help develop these skills.

“Many marginalized and disenfranchised groups are overlooked within medicine, hence the importance of a scholarship recognizing and embracing the sexual and gender diversity within our student body. Acknowledging a deserving student for their LGBTQ+ advocacy nourishes my soul,” Ron Holt II, DO (COM ’93) explained.

It is obvious that Karen Evans, DO (COM '00), loves her work as a primary care physician. You can tell by the way she lights up when she talks about her patients. Primary care is a love she shares with her father, Robert Frayser, DO (COM '87).

Deepa Halaharvi, DO (COM '08), knows how her breast cancer patients feel...because she’s been there.
